We want to share a little about ourselves, our passion for rocks, and creating to help you understand where your jewelry comes from.
both of us are fascinated with stones and have been collecting them our whole lives, from walking creeks for agates to digging hillsides for crystals. In the last few years we've really been able to dive head first into the rock hounding community, we've learned so much about geology and how to read a landscape.
with rock hounding comes the question.. what to do with the stones we collect. So over the last three years we've been creating jewelry and accumulating equipment to make handmade pieces for you from the PNW. After creating and learning for some time we ventured out and started buying higher quality stones from all over the world to incorporate into our craft. Every single item we create is completely handmade, from cutting, shaping, and polishing each stone to stamping the designs and doing all the silversmithing ourselves.
Engels Gems is a small business we started in January of 2020. we created this business not only to follow our dreams but to be able to share our passion throughout the PNW and beyond.
What NOT to do when caring for your new piece
Placing handmade jewelry into any solution or liquid can be detrimental not only structurally but can effect the integrity of the stone.
Turquoise, a stone we like to use often in our jewelry is a very porous mineral and can easily be affected by traditional means of cleaning jewelry.
The best ways to clean handmade sterling silver jewelry
You can use a soft cloth or brush to wipe away any tarnish or debris from the piece. You may also use a mild cleanser with water if necessary. Again do NOT soak the jewelry.
Our pieces have been intentionally oxidized to give them a vintage look, too much time spent trying to clean or polish them up will get rid of the patina we put on them and change the appearance of the piece.
Take care of your jewelry and it will last a lifetime
